Nanae Itoi is a dynamic mixed-media artist whose work intricately weaves the influences of mathematics, traditional Japanese culture, and contemporary "cute" culture. Hailing from Kyoto, Japan, and now based in New York City since 2011, Nanae has developed a unique artistic language that is both immersive and extendable.

 

After graduating from Hunter College with majors in Emerging Media and Computer Science, Nanae has cultivated a practice that seamlessly integrates physical and digital realms. Her work often employs projection mapping and augmented reality (AR) filters, creating a multi-sensory experience that engages audiences on multiple levels.

 

Inspired by the precision and beauty of mathematics, Nanae brings a structured yet whimsical approach to their creations. This mathematical influence is evident in the intricate patterns and geometric forms that often characterize their work. Simultaneously, the artist’s deep appreciation for traditional Japanese culture can be seen in the use of motifs and materials that evoke a sense of historical continuity and cultural depth.

 

Incorporating elements of cute culture, Nanae infuses her work with a playful and accessible charm, making their art both intellectually stimulating and visually delightful.
